Multicultural Team Building Helps Global Business Overcome Communication Challenges

“Cross-cultural Teams: Solving the Communication Challenges Tech Can’t Fix” is a Gigaom offering that addresses an eternal global business issue. In Louisville Kentucky we are home to Yum!, UPS, Humana, and just down the road is Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing North America.  So many of our top corporations are dealing with global communication issues. That is why we worked with some strategic partners to establish a BAFA BAFA team building program.
So the article definitely captured our attention. The illusion that technology solves all problems associated with multicultural corporations, is just that, an illusion.  As explained in the article conflict is inevitable in cross-cultural teams but the impact of those conflicts is a whole new ball game that conflict in a team that is co-located.

…based on interviews she’s conducted for her research, different cultures often have very different views on conflict and confrontation.

Language is a central problem and the article gives some good tips on how to overcome those challenges. Being clear and definitions of terms needs to be clear.
