Abstract:This
research focused on different variables. NWW is a variable which
consists of four dimensions: teleworking, flexible working places,
flexible working hours and IT usage. In this research, the relationship
between the four dimensions of NWW with productivity and organizational
commitment was examined. Furthermore, the influence of teamwork behavior
via face-to-face- and computer mediated communication (virtual) on
these relationships was tested.

To test the influences of different variables, a quantitative research
was conducted in the form of structured surveys. Surveys were conducted
online at twelve Dutch companies (N=347), of which Rabobank Utrecht
Operations employees were the biggest group of respondents (N=296).

NWW enable workers to work independently of time, place and technology.
This makes it likely that co-workers meet each other less at work this
changes the way they informally interact with each other and changes
the teamwork behavior. The hypothesis of the relationship between NWW
and the outcome variables organizational commitment and productivity can
be confirmed, but only with very small influences of NWW on
productivity (1,4%). Also, the relationship between NWW and
organizational commitment can be confirmed with 2,1%.

To be able to stimulate the outcome variables of NWW via teamwork
behavior, it was found that teamwork behavior positively influences the
realization of the benefits of NWW. This does not mean that
organizations should immediately implement (components of) NWW to
increase employees’ productivity, because it depends on different
factors. Besides that, this Master Thesis strengthens the scientific
literature with a confirmation of organizational commitment as a
positive outcome of implementing (components of ) NWW. However, this
does not mean that organizations should directly and only implement
(components of) NWW to increase the organizational commitment of its
employees. The components flexible workplaces at work, flexible working
hours, and IT have proven to contribute to the organizational commitment
of employees. This Master Thesis found that teleworking does not
significantly contribute to organizational commitment.

The hypotheses stated for teamwork behavior as a moderator were all
rejected. Despite the rejections of the hypotheses, the teamwork
behaviors do have an influence on productivity and organizational
commitment. Therefore, this research is not only interesting for
organizations but also for their leaders since it is proven that the
teamwork behaviors more strongly correlate with organizational
commitment or productivity than NWW with these outcome variables.

Abstract

Research has been extremely involved in improving in the art
criticism area. These improvements are reflected in scientific articles.
This article purposed to investigate the 214 articles in art criticism
to explore their main characteristics. These articles published in the
Web of Science database of the Institute of Scientific Information (ISI)
from the period of 1980 till 20 December 2013. Types of articles were
article and review which is included in the study. The three top cited
(more than 10 times citations) articles in art criticism were published
in 1993 and 1999. The 214 articles mean citation rate was 0.87 (SD 2.38)
times. Among the various fields, art (58.87%), arts humanities other
topics (28.03%), both art and arts humanities other topics (5.14%), both
art and education and educational research (2.33%), both art and
history (1.40%), art, arts humanities other topics and literature
(1.40%), both art and cultural studies (0.93%), both art and philosophy
(0.93%), both art and literature (0.46%), and both arts humanities other
topics and cultural studies (0.46%) were the most popular fields of
research. The results showed that researches were done in the United
States had highest citation which was written in English language.

Abstract: Many organizations today have teambuilding strategies as part of their official training curriculum aimed at improving employee performance by enhancing cohesion, creativity, organization and problem solving abilities. As a perfect teambuilding solution for maintaining a more productive and focused virtual team, gaming has emerged as a powerful tool for employee engagement that changes behavior, improvesskill development and enhance creativity and innovation [1]. This paper examines JavaScript and Web Sockets using draught to achieve a real time P2P interactive game that can be used as a virtual team building social software tool. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Virtual Teams: a Literature Review - reviewed | Global Integration

Virtual Teams: a Literature Review – reviewed

13
"Matrix Monday"Consultant
Phil Stockbridge takes a closer look at ” Virtual Teams; a Literature
Review” by Nader Ale Ebrahim, Shamsuddin Ahmed and Zahari Taha – a
review of a review!

One of the strengths of the article is a massive – 5 pages – of
references of the literature these researchers trawled through, although
they missed out “Speed Lead” which would have certainly enhanced some of their conclusions.

The article – as the name suggests – aims essentially to be a
literature review of everything written about virtual teams (VTs) in the
last 15 years.

One of the first things it does is attempt to define what a VT is.
Interestingly the review makes no differentiation between remote and
virtual teams in the way that many people we now work with do. What they
do is define the common criteria of VTs, being geographically
dispersed, driven by a common purpose, enabled by communication
technologies, and involved in cross-boundary collaboration. They cited
other characteristics, not universally agreed on as being:-

  • not permanent
  • small in size
  • team members are knowledge workers and they may belong to different companies.
They identified four different forms of VTs, differentiating between
groups and teams in much the way we do in Speed Lead. This creates
‘Teleworkers’, ‘Remote Teams’, ‘Matrix Teleworkers’ and ‘Matrix Remote
Teams’, depending on the number of managers the group or team report
into.

A useful couple of tables which would be worth any manager of a
remote or virtual team scanning are the benefits and drawbacks of VTs.
Whilst for many of us they seem obvious, the handy tables provide the
reader/manager with an opportunity to systematically check that they
have a plan to deal with them. As before, all the advantages and
drawbacks are referenced.

There is another table highlighting the differences in nature of VTs
and physical teams – concluding that VTs will not be the answer to every
problem.

The authors then conclude with 12 key factors that need to be
considered when setting up VTs, stating (as we do) that success in
implementing VT working is more about processes and people than about
technology.

As we’ve said in our remote and virtual teams training since its early days of development in the 90’s: “You earn the right to manage remotely.”

Abstract

Increasingly
competitive global markets and accelerating technological changes have
increased the need for people to contact via electronic medium to have
daily updates, the people those who could not able to meet face to face
every day. Those who contact via electronic medium i.e. Virtual Team,
are having number of benefit but to achieve these potential benefits,
however, leaders need to overcome liabilities inherent in the lack of
direct contact among team members and managers. Team members may not
naturally know how to interact effectively across space and time. By
this paper author try to throw some lights on the challenges that
virtual team faces and try to elaborate what is needed for Virtual Team.
