Outline of a Process Model for Virtual Organisations: A Research Perspective

Walied Askarzai, PhD student (University of Western Sydney), Lecturer/Trainer Academies Australasia (Group of Colleges) & Nirimba TAFE

Abstract
A systematic review of the literature pertaining to the area of Virtual Organisation (VO) over the last two decades reveals VO to be a somewhat ambiguous notion, eluding definitive categorisation. There is also some incongruity between the definitions of VO and Virtual Team (VT). This call for an all-encompassing, simple and intelligible model to delineate VO. Grounded in an extensive literature review, this paper proposes a process model for VO. This model is a methodical, straightforward and thorough presentation of VO. It is envisaged by the author that this model will create a conceptual framework that can contribute to a better understanding of VO and bring about cohesion between the definitions of VO and VT.
